An English prayer book of the fifteenth century in Vercelli
"This collection of essays by Oxford and Vercelli students of medieval literature and palaeography celebrates the (re)discovery of Vercelli, Biblioteca Capitolare, MS CCXXV, a personalized collection of Latin and English prayers, probably written in Yorkshire during the second half of the fifteenth century. Almost all palaeographical, iconographical, and codicological aspects of this little Vercelli book have been addressed in some way by the contributors, offering the reader a gateway into the material study of the handwritten prayers of lay English people before and during the early days of printing. Editions of the Middle English texts are provided alongside a detailed table of contents with plentiful references to editions and parallel manuscripts, and papers on the provenances of this manuscript during the past six centuries round out the study."--P.
