Predators: Pedophiles, Rapists, and Other Sex Offenders

Anna C. Salter

"World-renowned psychologist Anna Salter has been studying sexual offenders and their victims for more than twenty years. Now, for the first time, she uses her expertise to dispel the myths surrounding sexual offenders - how they think, how they deceive their victims, and how they elude the law.". "Sexual crimes are more prevalent than most people would ever imagine: Recent research shows that one in four girls and one in six boys will have sexual contact with an adult. Even more alarming is the fact that fewer than five percent of sex offenders are ever apprehended. One man admitted to victimizing more than 1,000 children before he was incarcerated.". "Why is sexual abuse so common, and how do predators cover their tracks? After countless hours of interviews with sexual offenders - from respected community leaders and clergymen to trusted family friends and relatives - Anna Salter argues that it is our misconceptions about predators that make us so vulnerable to them. Drawing on the stories of abusers, told in their own words, Salter sheds light on the surprising motives behind sexual abuse."--BOOK JACKET.
